Anderson Shumaker’s forge shop achieved its Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) certification! In addition to our recent AS9100D certification (aerospace), this new achievement helps us make big strides as a dependable forging supplier. Above all, it opens markets and helps us gain new customers.
What is a Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) Certification?
In short, a PED certification sets the standards for the design and fabrication of pressure equipment to meet all necessary safety standards. It is typically required for oil & gas field equipment, although many industries rely on PED certified equipment. This certification is key to selling manufactured equipment in the European Union (EU). For example, a PED certification removes the technical barriers associated with selling pressure equipment internationally. Most importantly, this means that Anderson Shumaker’s pressure equipment is already approved for sale in all 28 EU countries. Therefore, our pressure equipment does not have to be tested in each EU country.
What Kinds of Products are Typically Pressure Equipment?
Anderson Shumaker forges many products that are subject to PED certification. Consequently, these products serve industries such as: oil & gas, defense, special machinery, aerospace, and food industry equipment (just to name a few). Popular pressure equipment examples includes:
- Discs (bursting)
- Rods (buckling)
- Industrial piping
- Relief valves
- Pressure valves
- Safety valves
Why Get a PED Certification?
To stay competitive, of course! Anderson Shumaker earned a PED certification in response to the requirements of our expanding international customer base. Because of our growing customer pool, we want the tools and know-how to meet all their needs. However, another great benefit of our PED certification is customer cost savings. By being PED certified, Anderson Shumaker helps our customers meet their own PED requirements. In other words, our customers can avoid costly inspections, audits, or interruptions to production.
We’ve been proudly producing high quality open-die forgings since 1902. This certification is one more way Anderson Shumaker continues to be competitive and cutting-edge. Above all, it’s one more way we can best serve our customers.
