2205 Duplex Stainless Steel UNS S31803

2205 Duplex stainless steel, which has a microstructure that contains both austenite and ferrite phases, and has an excellent combination of strength and corrosion resistance.

In the annealed condition 2205 Duplex has twice the annealed strength of a typical austenitic stainless steel, like 304 and 316 Stainless.

Applications: 2205 duplex stainless steels have been used in oil and gas, pumps and pump parts, valves, chemical and paper manufacturing.

Corrosion Resistance

The following table is for reference only, many factors can affect the corrosive resistance, a corrosion test for each application should be applied.

Phosphoric acid Moderate Acetic Acid Good
Sodium Hydroxide Moderate Sea Water Moderate
Salt Spray Excellent Nitric Acid Good
Sulfuric Acid Moderate Humidity Excellent
Sour oil/gas Moderate

Heat Treatment

Annealing:
Heat to 1850/2050 F (1010/1121c) and quench in water. Brinell hardness approximately Rockwell 20 C.
Hardening:
Cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Cold working this alloy increases its strength and hardness.
Machinability:
Will be in between that of 316 and Nitronic 50.
Shapes Manufactured:
Flat Bars, Square Bars, Round Bars, Rings, Hollows, Discs, Blocks and special Shapes. Send us a drawing to see how we can save you material and Machining time!
