Rolled rings are made using a rolling mill, which can make rings in different diameters and sizes. The procedure starts with a punctured circular piece of metal formed into a doughnut – this is why it’s called a “ring”. After the ring has been created, it is set to a high temperature until it reaches recrystallization.
Forged rolled rings on one of our radial ring rollers is an Anderson Shumaker specialty. The process of ring forging for the seamless rolled forged ring involves cutting a hole out of a forging material, such as aluminum or stainless steel, and rolling it into a thin ring. The rolled forged rings offer improved concentrically and smooth surfaces as compared to plate burn-outs, or butt welded rings.
