In November 2019, we welcomed the newest addition to the Anderson Shumaker equipment family: a brand-new heat-treat furnace! Additionally, our new furnace was designed, engineered, and built in-house. This is quite an accomplishment. Consequently, we’re really proud of this latest equipment addition. Here are a few fun facts about our new heat-treat furnace:
Clam Shell Design
Also called a “tip up furnace,” this design has a pivoting furnace body. Therefore, the design allows for easy loading and unloading of forged products. Our clam shell furnace can process many metals. For example: it can process aluminum, high nickel allows, steel, titanium, and many more grades.
Highly Efficient
Additionally, this new furnace is extremely modern and efficient. One of its best features is accuracy in multiple zones. For instance, it can maintain uniform parts temperature and achieve steady critical heating and cooling profiles. Because of this feature, we can ensure our products are heat treated to meet customers’ exact specifications.
+/- 10 Degrees 900F – 2000F
This furnace is hot! Due to its wide temperature range, it can perform normalizing, annealing, hardening, tempering, stress relieving, precipitation-hardening, and other critical thermal processing operations. Since we have excellent control over its heating capabilities, we can manage our products with extreme precision.
NADCAP Certified (First Quarter 2020)
However, the most important feature is our new furnace will be NADCAP Certified. NADCAP stands for National Aerospace and Defense Contractions Accreditation Program. This company-level certification establishes requirements for approved aerospace suppliers, including Anderson Shumaker. Because NADCAP gives us the opportunity to achieve tighter control over special processes, it’s an important certification for aerospace and defense. Additionally, it compliments our AS9001D certification (March 2019).
Really, the best part of our new furnace? It looks like something straight out of Star Wars. May the heat-treating be with you!
