Our forging equipment works just as hard as our talented employees. Moreover, if we didn’t have proper equipment, we wouldn’t be able to offer diverse products or meet our high-quality standards. Today we’ll take a look at our most important forge shop equipment.
FORGING & RING ROLLING EQUIPMENT
Anderson Shumaker uses all of the below equipment for open die forging:
- 2500 Ton Hydraulic Press
- 6000 Pound Hammer
- 4000 Pound Hammer
- 3500 Pound Hammer
- 300 Ton Radial Ring Mill
- 150 Ton Radial Ring Mil
A hydraulic press uses a pressurized liquid cylinder to generate compressive force. The press applies slow and continuous force to shape a piece. As a result, it is different from hammer forging (flat die forging). Hammer forging compresses a piece through the continuous blows of an upper die. Likewise, the material remains stationary over the lower die while the upper die strikes the material until it obtains the required reduction in the height and desired shape. Radial ring rolling produces seamless rolled rings by controlling only the outside and inside diameters.
IN-HOUSE HEAT TREATING EQUIPMENT
- 5 Heat Treating Furnaces
- 6 Forge Furnaces (Charge)
- 2 Water Quench Tanks
- 1 Polymer Quench Tank
In-house heat treating is an important part of Anderson Shumaker’s operations. It saves our customers’ time, expense, and helps make us a one-stop shop for complete project traceability. Moreover, just 2 weeks ago we wrote about our newest furnace. We also previously discussed the importance of our quench tanks.
MACHINING, FINISHING & TESTING SERVICES
- 4 Turret Lathes
- 2 VTLs
- 3 Milling Machines
- 9 Band Saws
- Rough & Finish Machining
- Non-Destructive & Destructive Testing
A turret lathe is a machine used for repetitive production of duplicate parts. On the other hand, vertical lathes are vertical boring mills equipped with a turret. Therefore, these lathes are useful for handling very large, heavy, short workpieces. Milling is the process of machining and using rotary cutters to remove material by advancing a cutter into a work pieces. For example, they are commonly used for rendering machining custom parts to precise tolerances. A while back we discussed the importance of testing.
