When you think “forging,” you probably don’t think “information technology.” While it seems like the two don’t go together, the truth is that information technology (IT) is a major part of modern forging. Without innovative IT, we’d be stuck in the dark ages. That wouldn’t be good for our customers or our employees. At Anderson Shumaker, we’ve made key upgrades in our IT department. Here’s a summary of what we’ve accomplished since new management took over in June 2018.
Expert IT Consulting
First, management brought in their expert IT consultant. He’s been working successfully with the new owners for 20+ years. The IT consultant quickly identified key upgrades, technology to add, and areas to improve. He also created a schedule so that Anderson Shumaker would see benefits immediately. Overall, he’s been the best IT asset.
Newly Redesigned Website
Anderson Shumaker’s website was old and outdated. The IT consultant created a newly redesigned, modern website. Our website is mobile friendly, sleek, and has multi-language options. It is SEO optimized and includes a blog and excellent content. It’s also extremely well organized and user-friendly. Most importantly, it allows our customers to quickly find the information they need. We’ve seen major benefits since the day it went live. We get a lot of business from our website, therefore the upgraded version has brought new customers and projects to our forge shop.
Upgraded Computers and New Software
Along with the website, other immediate changes included upgrading all Anderson Shumaker’s computers to the latest operating system. We also upgraded the hardware, servers, and WiFi. Our property now has 100% WiFi coverage. This means our managers can answer customer emails and inquires while they are on the forge shop floor. We also upgraded our email for increased performance and flexibility. We installed and connected heat treat chart recorders to the network. With better, faster, and more reliable computers, our staff is better connected with one another and our customers.
Enterprise Resource Planning System
An Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP) is a centralized system that integrates all major enterprise functions. We’re developing 1 custom-tailored system managing all aspects of our business. This will allow us to seamlessly connect multiple departments and better serve our customers. We’re doing good with what we have, but the new system will really elevate Anderson Shumaker’s customer service. We excited to roll it out in 2020.
Other Notable Upgrades
We have new digital phones which replace our old standard office phones. These IP enabled phones offer a host of innovative features. As a result, our staff is better connected to each other and our customers. We’re digitally optimizing our security system. In other words, we’re making sure our products, equipment, and employees are as safe as possible.
